5th District Republicans Endorse Joel Demos to Challenge Keith Ellison |
Minneapolis, April 12, 2010 — Carleton Crawford, chair of the 5th Congressional District Republicans announced today that Joel Demos of St. Louis Park received the Republican Party endorsement at the 5th Congressional District Republican convention that was held at De La Salle High School on Saturday.
“Joel is a passionate and focused man who will offer the 5th Congressional District unwavering leadership in tough economic times. Joel is dedicated to restoring economic prosperity to the district by reducing the tax burden on middle class families, and I know he will work hard to re-establish a healthy business climate in Minneapolis. Congressman Ellison hasn’t adequately represented his constituents throughout the fifth district and now is the time for change. I’m confident that Joel will address the needs and concerns of the hard-working people, families and students throughout the district,” said Carleton Crawford.
Joel received endorsement from the 235 delegates that attended the convention. The 5th Congressional District covers eastern Hennepin County, including the entire city of Minneapolis, along with parts of Anoka and Ramsey counties. Major cities include: St. Louis Park, Columbia Heights, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, Richfield, and Fridley.
Joel currently works in the anti-money laundering division at TCF Bank and resides with his wife, Jenny and their two children, Joy and Toby, in Golden Valley.
In her nominating speech Mary Belfry from Minneapolis said, “It is critical to have a financial professional that is honest and ethical. That is Joel Demos.”
Joel will be running against DFL incumbent Keith Ellison, who has represented the district since 2007. “Joel will bring a fresh voice to a district that for too long has been represented by an overly ideological and partisan agenda,” said Crawford.

Joel Demos Endorsed By 5th CD Republicans |
St. Paul April 10, 2010- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Tony Sutton today issued the following statement regarding the endorsement of Joel Demos by Fifth Congressional District Republicans.
“On behalf of the Republican Party of Minnesota, I offer my congratulations to Joel Demos on his endorsement. With his common sense pro-growth agenda, Joel is a great candidate who is sure to draw support from Republicans, independents and persuadable Democrats throughout the Fifth Congressional District. Joel will also ensure that Keith Ellison is held to account for his far-left voting record of higher taxes and bigger government.”
(press release from MNGOP)
Congratulations to Joel! Go to www.demosforuscongress.com and support his campaign. Thanks to all the volunteers and committee members, along with the 235 delegates/alternates who helped make our convention a success!

Hi all, I'm honored to serve as your new SD-60 chair, and want to once again thank Brandon Ferdig for his valuable contributions over the past year. It hardly needs to be said that you'll be missed! I'm really encouraged to see so much energy, and am looking forward to doing what I can to help convert that enthusiasm into positive results for district 60. I'd really enjoy the opportunity to meet you all at the upcoming CHILI PARTY this Monday, April 5th from 7 till 8:30 at Scott Weber's fantastic abode on Cedar Lake at 2601 Sunset Boulevard Room 3G (map). I've heard this place is amazing. Scott Brooks put this event together so we can all get to know neighbors and friends of SD60. Meet your precinct chair, meet me, meet the Scotts. You should all swing by and have some chili on us. Should be fun! Thanks for your support, and your service, and I'm really looking forward to working with you all!
Your new Chair,
Mark Johnson |
