New Features at MCRC website PDF Print E-mail

Check out the new features at the MCRC website, including a section that examines the city budget and items that are nice but not necessary.

Mayor R.T. Rybak wants to cut essential services, police, fire, and city street maintenance, to offset a potential 2.15% reduction in state funding. Shouldn't Rybak first consider cuts to other departments to make up for this miniscule shortfall in a budget of $1.3 billion? We took a look at the city's 2010 budget and found many nice, but not necessary projects that could easily be trimmed down. In fact, many of these expenditures are not the primary responsibility of city government and could be more appropriately and efficiently done by the private sector.

For example, the Community Planning/Economic Development (CPED) has a budget of $86,587,525, over 400 employees, and a mission to "grow a sustainable city." This massive bureaucracy is a tangled web of departments that uses taxpayer dollars to give out interest free mortgages and delve into land speculation while pushing a central planning agenda.

The 2010 campaign is on! PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 04 March 2010 11:01

The effort to put our government back in Republican hands has begun in earnest, and the 5th Congressional District Republicans are poised to be leaders in this task.

2009 has provided a lot of good indicators for the coming election. The municipal elections provided a degree of activity not seen in Minneapolis for decades (along with candidates that outperformed the 2008 Election Day results by nearly 10%). Furthermore the local party units have been infused with new and creative leadership hungry to show what they can accomplish, and the volunteers to back them up. Finally, the special elections in early 2010 have shown the possibility for extraordinary Republican gains in November.

The 5th CD’s role in this is to make certain that candidates and volunteers are able to do their jobs. We provide the infrastructure to support federal, statewide and legislative candidates and their volunteers. Our efforts in the Minneapolis area provided the boost necessary to re-elect Tim Pawlenty in 2006, and our activities this year will help keep the Governor’s office in Republican hands for the next 4 years.

The 5th CD has been and will continue to be one of the most effective Republican volunteer organizations throughout the state. To support our efforts, please take a moment to click on the PayPal logo on this page and donate to the 5th CD Republicans. A strong 5th CD organization is critical to the statewide effort, and a generous donation to the 5th CD may be one of the most effective ways to ensure a successful Republican year in Minnesota.

If you have questions about our plans and want to get involved, feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Carleton Crawford, Chair
5th CD Republican Committee
